Baanto Launches ShadowSense Open Frame Touchscreen Family with 19” E Series Products

Leveraging the strength of the ShadowSense position sensing technology, the new 19” E series expands the multi-touch options and capabilities for kiosk, gaming, ATM, PC and PC monitor markets.

Mississauga, ON, March 15, 2011 – Baanto International Ltd. (“Baanto” or the “Company”) a leading independent manufacturer of touchscreen and position sensing technologies and products today announced its 19″ ShadowSense™ E Series touchscreen assemblies.  Supporting up to four (4) simultaneous inputs, the new touchscreens are optimized to provide robust and cost effective multi-touch performance and gesture recognition in applications currently using the ELO 1939L family of touchscreens, providing customers with an easy and cost effective multi-touch replacement for the aging, single-touch SAW technology.

The 19” E Series touchscreens are available with either two (2), three (3), or four (4) point multi-touch features enabled.  Touch point size detection, never before available in this size of touchscreen, can  be used to screen for accidental touches, and in conjunction with static object detection, improves the touchscreen operation in real world deployments where debris, spills, and vandalism occur.  In addition, this unique feature opens up new possibilities for software developers incorporating multi-touch capabilities in their applications

The touch performance is exceptional, the design features a touch response time of under 6 milliseconds and touch detection of objects as small as 2 mm in diameter.  The ShadowSense algorithms are extremely efficient and all touchpoint processing is performed by the touch controller.  As a result, the host interface is a Windows 7 ®  USB HID packet, allowing for driverless operation and no consumption of CPU resources on either the host PC or media controller.   As a perimeter based technology, ShadowSense touch is independent of the protective glass, resulting in brighter displays, immunity to casual scratches and debris on the screen, vandal resistant operation, and IP65 sealing to resist dust and moisture intrusion.

Available now, the new touchscreens can be used as a replacement in chassis’ and systems that already incorporate the 1939L product line from ELO TouchSystems, Inc.. Competitively priced to single touch SAW units, the BAANTO ShadowSense E Series offers multi-touch performance in a mechanically compatible footprint.

“ShadowSense based solutions solve many of the technical shortcomings of existing touch technologies”; commented Av Utukuri, Baanto CTO and Founder;

“By rethinking the traditional hardware and algorithms commonly used in optical touch solutions, we have created what is quite likely the most robust optical touch sensing technology available today.   Our patented technology and position sensing algorithms have allowed us to create low cost, high performance sensor architectures and avoid the ghosting, obscuration, and “dead zones” that plague other camera based solutions.  It scales well, doesn’t require constant recalibration and is incredibly easy to integrate.”

“Apple’s iPhone® and iPad® have succeeded in making multi-touch and gesture based control commonplace with over 70 million of their customers using these functions multiple times each day”, observed Joe Kotas, Baanto CEO; “As a result, simple single-touch applications are being upgraded across a broad range of markets and products as intuitive, gesture based habits and expectations take hold within the customer base.  However, the technologies used successfully in small displays such as the iPhone®  are often prohibitively expensive for displays larger than 8 inches and require a bare finger touch, an undesirable feature where gloves are commonly worn or touchscreens that need to function with the tap of a pen, credit card, or gloved finger. The ShadowSense family is designed to provide our customers a robust touchscreen solution that allows them to develop the next generation of new and innovative applications while meeting the cost and performance needs of their markets.”

Sampling now, the ShadowSense 19” E Series touchscreens are industrial quality, specifically designed for long-life, high-usage applications where multi-touch functionality, display quality and reliability are critical. See http:// www.Baanto.com for more information.
