Extending ShadowSense™ touchscreen technology into large formats targeted at Digital out of Home (DOOH) and Interactive Digital Signage applications, Baanto™ is releasing a comprehensive multi-user / multi-touch touchscreen product family in sizes from 32” to 85”
Toronto, Canada, December 3, 2012 – Baanto International Ltd., a leading independent manufacturer of touchscreen technologies today announced the release of large format ShadowSense based products targeting the Interactive Digital Signage and DOOH markets.
The family will launch with models matched to market requirements, including: 32”, 40”, 42”, 46”, 47”, 50”, 55”, 60”, 65”, 70”, 80”, and 85” panels. All of the products are designed to support the standard TFT LCD sizes currently available in the market and being used in commercial applications. Cost effective, and featuring advanced ShadowSense Performance Features or SPF including:
- SPF SnapCount™ :
- Real time tracking of up to six touch points without slowing down the user application
- SPF SizeAlert™:
- Real time touch point size calculation allows developers to create new and innovative use models as well as implement palm and spurious touch rejection
- SPF RealTouch™:
- Responds to any IR touch object, eliminating the need for bare finger touching or special styli or gloves
- SPF-10K™:
- Provides immunity to ambient light of up to 10,000 foot-candles, roughly equal to being outdoors at noon on the equator.
“Large format touchscreens introduce different use models, yet user expectations are based on smart phone and tablet touch performance”, stated Av Utukuri, Baanto CTO. “ShadowSense uniquely solves a challenging set of DOOH requirements, for example”:
Touch performance must be fast and responsive, yet in order to provide a positive user experience there needs to be an enhanced ability to identify spurious touch points caused by “finger dragging” and objects such as shirt sleeves, cuffs, or coats touching the screen.
Obviously, DOOH environments tend to be much more diverse than those of single user devices, so limiting touch detection to just a bare finger touch is simply unrealistic. For example, during a flu outbreak, would you rather touch a public display with your bare finger or with a gloved hand, or pen, or even an umbrella?
Lastly, imagine a display in a shopping 3mall. Its optimum location and orientation is fixed, so the touch system has to be able to function flawlessly regardless of the ambient lighting conditions, whether from sunlight or high intensity lighting. Yet many competitive systems stop working randomly during the day simply because of the amount of light coming in through nearby windows.
“The demand for interactivity in the Digital Signage arena is exploding”, Joe Kotas, Baanto CEO, noted: “A key challenge in generating revenue for digital signage deployments is simple – show the advertisers that a campaign is working. Touch enabled displays are the most cost effective way of identifying and tracking user interaction with the ad content. Interactivity coupled with lower display prices in the 32” to 80” sizes is causing the number and diversity of deployments to increase rapidly. Baanto’s new products, which include the ShadowSense Performance Features or SPF attributes, will make such deployments more reliable, more robust and much more engaging.”
